Coplait & Yoplait

Half-litre bottle and yogurt 6 oz. pot - Denis Morin

Historic

In 1964, over 100,000 French farmers merged their regional dairy co-operatives in order to sell their product on a national level. In 1965, they dropped their own brands and created "Yoplait", the first complete range of fresh daily products. Two of these co-ops, "Yola" and "Coplait", decided to merge, becoming "Yoplait".

The logo they chose was a six-petalled flower, each petal representing one of the six main co-operatives that founded the company. Whereas returnable jars were still the rule, Yoplait was now offering a complete range of chilled products in throwaway packaging.

1970 : Yoplait (France) signed a franchise contract with the "Coopérative agricole de Granby".
1971 : Yoplait crossed the Atlantic and established itself in Granby, Quebec.
1976 : Yoplait is the Official Supplier of the Olympic Games.
